Tens of thousands of new jobs and £18 billion boost to UK economy as PM meets Japanese leader

The UK and Japan are forging a deep economic partnership, with inward investment exceeding £9 billion in infrastructure and financial services and up to £9 billion in offshore wind. The collaboration aims to accelerate cooperation in AI, semiconductors, and quantum computing ahead of the G7 in Évian-les-Bains. Officials anticipate tens of thousands of new jobs and more than £18 billion in economic benefits, supported by a five-year pipeline of over £9 billion. The Offshore Wind Compact, developed with Great British Energy, seeks up to £9 billion in Japanese investment to develop 5.9 GW of floating offshore wind, including the Ossian and Green Volt projects off Scotland and Erebus in the Celtic Sea, boosting energy security and growth. Hitachi Energy UK will create at least 500 new jobs over five years to expand the grid and support the initiatives.
