Texas Data Breach Hits 3 Million: Driver's Licenses, Passport Numbers Stolen From Hunting Vendor
Texas Data Breach Hits 3 Million: Driver's Licenses, Passport Numbers Stolen From Hunting Vendor centers on a major security incident tied to Texas Parks and Wildlife’s licensing sales. On June 18, the department disclosed that attackers breached a third-party vendor that processes hunting and fishing license purchases, exposing the driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, and contact information of 3,087,721 Texans. State officials call it the largest government data breach in Texas this year. Texas Cyber Command detected unauthorized access to the vendor’s systems and was notified by TPWD on May 13, 2026, while the formal notice was published June 12 and public disclosure followed June 18. TPWD says Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and financial data, including credit card details, were not obtained. The breach remains under investigation, and TPWD has not named the vendor; reported discrepancies suggest possible additional data in filings to the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
