The best universities for AI across six continents

The 2026–2027 U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings for AI, released Wednesday, show Asia dominating the subject list. Asian universities account for 18 of the top 20 institutions, with China holding 14 of those spots. Singapore and Hong Kong each have two institutions in the top group. In Africa, Egypt’s Mansoura University is the highest-ranked, at 122nd globally. For Australia and New Zealand, the University of Technology Sydney ranks 15th worldwide, making it the region’s leading AI university and one of only two non-Asian institutions in the global top 20. Europe’s top entry is ETH Zurich at 19th, followed by the University of Oxford in the UK. North America ranks lower overall, led by Carnegie Mellon at 39th, with Stanford, MIT and UC Berkeley also included, while no Latin American university appears in the AI subject rankings.
