The masked dealer with a loaded gun, and the cop who stood in his way
A Greater Manchester Police officer, Pc Dan Clayton, received the Salford Bravery Award after facing a gunman at close range during an incident on May 20 last year. According to the report, a balaclava-clad Jay Conway, 33, raised a loaded 9mm pistol toward the officer after being hit by a Taser, leaving Clayton to take cover behind a parked car while shouting warnings. The chase began after undercover officers saw Conway handing out drug packets in Albert Park, Broughton, and after he stole a bike and fled. The article says Clayton’s description helped lead to Conway’s arrest in Whalley Range the next day. Conway later pleaded guilty and was jailed in March for 14 years for offences including firearm possession with intent to endanger life, and drug offences. Clayton said the action removed a loaded firearm from the streets and reduced further public risk.
