TODAY' show intruder arraigned on hate crime charges
TODAY show intruder arraised on hate crime charges after a security breach involving co-anchor Craig Melvin. Andrew Truelove, 41, was arraigned Friday on allegations that he entered an unauthorized area near Studio 1A, NBC News’s street-level headquarters for the show, and shouted a racial slur. According to a complaint filed by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, he faces a burglary charge in the third degree as a hate crime and a menacing charge in the third degree as a hate crime. A judge set bail at $10,000. NBC News confirmed that Melvin alerted security, and that the person was detained and taken into custody without further incident. The network said there was no altercation and no injuries. NBC and TODAY said they are cooperating fully with law enforcement and reviewing security protocols.
