Tom Hanks Frets AI Could Voice Woody in Even More "Toy Story" Movies

Tom Hanks frets about AI potentially replacing his voice as Woody in more “Toy Story” movies, keeping the franchise moving beyond “Toy Story 5,” now positioned as the latest installment decades after the 1995 original. In an Entertainment Weekly interview with co-star Tim Allen, Hanks suggested that digital recordings could allow Disney to assemble a version of his performance, framing the idea as unsettling. Hanks and Allen called the notion a “scary thought,” noting the permanence of recorded dialogue in digital media. Earlier, Hanks had also warned about scams using AI deepfakes of his likeness without permission, while defending AI de-aging technology used on him for the 2024 Robert Zemeckis film “Here.”
