Trump 'Directly' Pressing Apple For 'Lake America' Name Change, Burgum Says
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said President Donald Trump reached out to Apple “directly” to ask it to change Lake Ontario to “Lake America” in its Maps app as the White House accelerates renaming efforts. Burgum told Fox Business on Monday that a switch from Apple was “coming up soon,” noting that as of 10 a.m. EDT, Apple Maps still displays “Lake Ontario” for U.S. users. Apple has previously adjusted other map names to align with the Trump administration, including showing “Gulf of America” instead of the Gulf of Mexico and “Mount McKinley” instead of Denali. Google Maps, however, updated the name over the weekend. The Canadian government retaliated with tariffs after Trump’s executive order signed Thursday changing the name in federal databases. MapQuest said it would not change the name.
