President Donald Trump said the U.S. should not slow AI development despite mounting safety concerns and renewed calls for regulation. Speaking Sunday in Doonbeg, Ireland, as he visited the venue hosting the Irish Open, Trump dismissed warnings from some AI developers and lawmakers, arguing “whoever wins AI wins” and claiming the U.S. is already ahead of China. House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed the need for companies to set “guardrails,” while also saying leaders and platform providers should meet Congress to find the right balance. In contrast, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries urged “decisive action” to protect Americans. Trump also said Xi Jinping will visit Sept. 24.
