Ukraine fires 400 drones toward Moscow as Zelenskyy grapples with protests

Ukraine fired more than 400 drones toward Moscow in a major strike on the Russian capital, the city’s mayor said Monday. The attack came hours after Russia bombarded Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities with ballistic missiles, continuing a cycle of tit-for-tat exchanges that has complicated efforts toward an end to Moscow’s invasion, now more than four years old. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he would hold “key talks” Monday amid a domestic political crisis following last week’s government reshuffle, which exposed divisions over war strategy. Zelenskyy faces pressure after replacing Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, aged 35, while keeping Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi, 60, as armed forces chief, after protests in support of Fedorov and against Syrskyi. Moscow officials said 85 drones were intercepted near the city and 10 people were wounded, with damage to residential and civilian infrastructure. The strike started a fire at the Yuzhnye Vrata industrial park south of Moscow, and Kyiv said it also hit logistics facilities and an oil depot, plus vessels in Russia’s shadow fleet in the Black Sea.
