Verstappen Is Right: Sprint Races Belong On Passable Tracks
xCruzo Brief
Max Verstappen renewed his criticism of Formula 1 sprint races, arguing they should only be held on tracks where drivers can actually pass. After winning Saturday’s sprint in Singapore, he said the event format was poorly suited because overtaking is essentially not possible at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Verstappen noted the “Overtake Mode” makes little difference on the straights, leaving drivers stuck following closely through corners. F1 plans to expand sprints to 10 next year by adding four more races, including Monaco—also described as a venue with difficult overtaking. The sprint ended with George Russell spinning into the wall in wet conditions; he later faced a rear-of-grid penalty after changing a power unit.
