What a $1,000 Investment in a SpaceX Could Be Worth in 5 Years
SpaceX’s valuation debate centers on what a $1,000 investment could yield in five years as the company tests how much investors will pay for access to its space infrastructure. SpaceX trades at nearly 82 times trailing 12-month sales, a level described as “rich,” following an IPO-driven surge and later pullback that indicates uncertainty about how much upside is already priced in. Starlink is cited as the clearest premium driver, generating $11.4 billion in 2025 revenue and $4.4 billion in operating income. By Q1 2026, Starlink had about 10.3 million users across 9,600 satellites. Starship is expected to carry 100 metric tons to orbit, potentially expanding launch capacity for larger Starlink satellites. Heavy AI infrastructure spending is also noted, with a $6.4 billion operating loss on AI and $20.7 billion in 2025 capital spending. Analysts project $224.8 billion revenue by 2031; at ~11 times sales, market cap could reach about $2.47 trillion. With 13.1 billion shares outstanding and a reference price of about $170.80 (June 30, 2026), $1,000 could rise to roughly $1,100 under that scenario.
