Windows 11 can now run local AI workloads on non-Copilot+ PCs that have an Nvidia GeForce RTX 30-series GPU or newer with at least 6GB of VRAM, according to updated Microsoft documentation. The change broadens access to local AI features without the Copilot+ badge, expanding the potential installed base beyond NPUs.

Developers can tap into the Language Model APIs powered by Phi Silica to perform on-device tasks such as text summarization, rewriting, table creation, and prompt-driven responses. Running locally on supported GPUs means data stays on the device, signaling a shift toward AI capabilities beyond Copilot+ while still highlighting hardware requirements.
