xCruzo Brief
Atlanta City, owned by Arthur Blank, has hired Richard Gunney—Gotham’s scouting director—as its chief soccer officer ahead of the club’s inaugural 2028 NWSL season. Gunney, a native of Cardiff, will begin work in Atlanta on Nov. 1. Mauricio Culebro, Atlanta City’s president of soccer, said Gunney’s decade of NWSL experience across coaching, scouting, recruitment and development prepares him to build a championship-caliber club. At Gotham, Gunney helped shape rosters and scouting networks, contributing to titles including NWSL championships in 2023 and 2025, a CONCACAF W Champions Cup in 2025, and the NWSL Challenge Cup this year.
