Bomb blast near Colombia's border with Venezuela injures at least 4 police officers
A bomb exploded Tuesday near the bridge that links Colombia’s border with Venezuela in Cúcuta, injuring at least four police officers, according to officials. The blast occurred in front of the local branch of Colombia’s tax collection agency near the Francisco de Paula de Santander International Bridge, and videos from the scene showed a damaged truck and motorcycles. Norte de Santander Governor William Villamizar said police were investigating who was responsible. The attack comes as President Abelardo de la Espriella, sworn in August, shifts Colombia’s security strategy, canceling peace talks and expanding joint task forces to protect oil pipelines. Authorities are also investigating the Monday assassination of a former deputy mayor in Cúcuta.
