Boston's Ranger Suarez leaves 7-5 win over Angels because of injury
Ranger Suárez left a 7-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim because of a groin injury that may threaten his availability for the July 14 All-Star Game in Philadelphia. The Boston Red Sox left-hander was an American League All-Star selection and had missed the 2024 event due to back stiffness, but on Wednesday he exited after feeling left-adductor tightness. Suárez said the injury happened on a pitch to Jo Adell with two outs in the third inning; he added he likely aggravated it when he jumped for Adell’s chopper over the mound. Interim manager Chad Tracy and a trainer visited as Suárez threw one warmup pitch, then went to the visiting dugout. Suárez said he felt “a big pinch” and could not continue, receiving treatment in-game. The Red Sox plan to wait a day or two before ordering an MRI. Suárez is 4-3 with a 3.15 ERA this season, and teammate Sonny Gray could be considered if Suárez lands on the injured list.
