Brewer track stars among latest inductees into school's Sports Hall of Fame
Brewer High School’s Sports Hall of Fame inducted its Class of 2026 with a strong track and field theme, including athletes, teams, and a technology pioneer. The class comprises six individuals and three teams, with track athletes Gene Kirkpatrick ('71) and Kimberley Pierce ('88) and Doug DeAngelis ('84) among the inductees. Kirkpatrick, an elite jumper, won the Penobscot Valley Conference high jump championship twice, earned Eastern Maine titles in long jump, and held school records in high jump, triple jump, and high hurdles for nearly 25 years. DeAngelis designed a timing system in 1992 that became the first photo-finish camera to deliver digital race results; the FinishLynx is still widely used beyond track meets, including events like the Kentucky Derby, NASCAR races, and the Tour de France. Pierce was a 1988 Class A state indoor champion in the 600-yard run, set records in multiple events, and received a Top Performer Award. Also included are 1979 and 1980 boys indoor track teams, the 1979 boys cross country team, multi-sport standout Carolyn McAvoy Gudroe ('03), and Andy Kiah ('90).
