British prime minister says Infantino is not the right man to lead FIFA

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Sunday that FIFA President Gianni Infantino is not the right person to lead world football, citing anger over a plan FIFA had floated to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. Burnham called the proposal “offensive” and said football’s governing bodies and supporters worldwide should not simply “move on” because it was unacceptable. The remarks followed UEFA’s Saturday decision to lose confidence in FIFA leadership, which could open a path to a challenge to Infantino. CONCACAF also criticized FIFA for “stopped putting football first.” Infantino backed down after UEFA’s boycott threat. The next FIFA election is in March 2026 in Rabat, Morocco.
