Buses to replace Metro Transit Blue Line, parts of Green Line for maintenance this summer
Metro Transit will use buses to replace the Blue Line and parts of the Green Line during maintenance work this summer, including track replacement and upgrades to outdated equipment. The entire Metro Transit Blue Line will shut down from June 29 to Aug. 19. Portions of the Green Line—specifically the west end from West Bank to Target Field—will be offline from July 1–July 26 and again from Aug. 16–Aug. 19. Metro Transit says buses will arrive at or near stations every 15 minutes, and some boarding locations will shift to Hiawatha Avenue, with staff guiding riders to bus stops. The agency also plans improvements across nearly every Blue Line stop, including real-time signs and shelter glass. General Manager Lesley Kandaras said the disruption is intended to improve the customer experience long-term. The Green Line is expected to return at the beginning of August for summer events.
