California Couple Charged With Murder in Shooting of Son-in-Law

Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77, were charged Wednesday with murder and related crimes in the shooting death of their son-in-law, 40-year-old Jonathan McKinsey, in a Dublin, California park about 35 miles east of downtown San Francisco. The couple was arrested Saturday after McKinsey was found dead in a parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Prosecutors also filed a special-circumstance charge of “lying in wait,” which—if proven—could mean life in prison without parole. Police said there was no described motive. Court records cited domestic-violence restraining order filings involving McKinsey and his wife and earlier misdemeanor child abuse charges. Authorities said surveillance showed Chen and Zhang firing “in concert,” and they are being held without bail.
