China's Xi chairs Politburo; Central Committee plenum set for October 26-29

China’s top leadership is setting up the next phase of party governance after a Politburo meeting chaired by Xi Jinping on Monday, state media reported. Xinhua said the discussion focused on internal Communist Party governance and discipline ahead of an upcoming conclave. The Central Committee’s plenary session is scheduled in Beijing from October 26 to 29, bringing together more than 300 full and alternate members—described as the party’s largest top decision-making body. The agenda centers on “major issues” for sustained, full and rigorous party self-governance, with the October gathering set to be the fifth plenum since the current Central Committee formed in 2022.
