City of Palms Park has rounded first base for the final time - Florida Weekly
xCruzo Brief
City of Palms Park in Fort Myers, Florida, is being dismantled after decades as a downtown baseball anchor. Demolition began after the stadium became dormant due to aging infrastructure and high renovation costs. Fort Myers City Council approved the tear-down in a 4-2 vote on April 20, awarding Honc Destruction Inc. a $988,441 contract to demolish and stabilize the site. Per city officials, Honc had six months to level the area. The demolition started June 1, and by Sept. 2 the contractor was on pace to finish within the deadline. The move ends professional baseball at the downtown facility, following the Boston Red Sox’s 1993 relocation and a deal that led to JetBlue Park in Daniels Parkway.
