Complete chaos' with CMS ouster of Supt. Crystal Hill

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education voted 5-4 on Sept. 22 to terminate Superintendent Crystal Hill’s contract, ending her tenure as the district’s chief executive. The decision followed a delayed meeting and an agenda reshaped during the session. Board members Charlitta Hatch and Liz Monterrey-Duval, along with Shamaiye Haynes, backed the removal, joining former chair Stephanie Sneed and her successor Dee Rankin, the former vice chair. Monty Witherspoon and Lenora Shipp, plus district representatives Cynthia Stone and Anna London, voted against. The board approved an investigation by an independent law firm and placed Hill on paid leave starting June 17, then ended the leave in August after a seven-week probe.
