Court of Appeals cases argued at Grand Junction High School
On Thursday, Oct. 8, the Colorado Court of Appeals heard oral arguments at Grand Junction High School as part of the state’s Courts in the Community program. Judges Jerry Jones, Karl Schock and Grant Sullivan presided; Sullivan is the liaison to the 21st Judicial District, which includes Mesa County. The panel did not issue rulings after arguments, which is typical. The court considered two cases. In Friends of Animals v. Colorado Parks and Wildlife, a Denver district court upheld CPW rules restricting certain wilderness recreation unless tied to hunting and fishing. Friends of Animals argued the agency improperly dismissed over 95% of public comments and failed to include them in the record. CPW’s attorney, Christopher Stork, said comments were summarized in a memo and that the agency substantially complied.
