Democrat Rep. Marcy Kaptur Wins Reelection in Ohio

Rep. Marcy Kaptur won re-election in Ohio’s Ninth District, defeating Republican challenger Derek Merrin, according to the reported vote with 97% counted. Kaptur led with 52.7% of the vote to Merrin’s 47.3%. The race adds another win for Democrats in a district Trump lost by a large margin in 2024, though the article frames it primarily as a contest between the incumbent and a GOP challenger. Kaptur, described as the longest-serving woman in U.S. congressional history, was first elected decades ago and extended her tenure with this result.
