Deseret News archival coverage recalls June 14, 1998, when Michael Jordan delivered the deciding moment as the Chicago Bulls sealed their sixth NBA championship in eight seasons with an 87-86 win over the Utah Jazz at the Delta Center. Jordan’s game-winning shot in the final seconds, after a controversial push-off on Byron Russell, earned him his record sixth Finals MVP on that date. The Jazz had opened the series with a win and led late in several games, but Chicago prevailed, capping a dramatic arc from a 62-win regular season and a deep playoff run that included sweeping the Lakers. Utah hasn’t returned to the Finals since, a memory the Deseret News archives still evoke.
