EKU No. 1 for Military FriendlyⓇ Schools
Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) was named No. 1 among large public universities in the 2026–27 Military Friendly® Schools rankings. The announcement, made in Richmond, cites EKU’s long record in veterans education, with President David McFaddin saying the recognition reflects the university’s commitment to serving those who served. This top placement follows three years of being in the top five and marks EKU as the only Kentucky institution in last year’s top ten list. Joshua Maynard, a veteran and director of EKU Veterans Upward Bound, highlighted the role of EKU’s Office of Military and Veteran Affairs (OMVA) in supporting academic success and student value. The survey drew participation from more than 3,200 organizations and evaluated areas including recruitment, retention, academic progress, graduation rates, career placement, and services for veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses. EKU reports serving over 1,900 military-connected individuals as of fall 2025, with programs including VA benefit navigation, priority registration, specialized advising, a VETS Center, and reduced tuition for active-duty service members and spouses.
