Eto'o backs Infantino's FIFA private equity plan

Samuel Eto’o, now president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, has voiced support for FIFA chief Gianni Infantino and defended his controversial plan to bring private investment into the World Cup. Eto’o said he does not believe Infantino was wrong, arguing that recent backlash is tied to an upcoming FIFA election. Infantino’s proposal, which was dropped under intense pressure, would have raised up to $20 billion, with FIFA’s 211 member associations receiving $20 million each and an additional $66 million over 12 years. Eto’o also claimed the loudest critics do not represent the majority, and argued the plan could help African nations retain talent and compete with major powers.
