Eto'o backs Infantino's FIFA private equity plan

Samuel Eto’o said he supports FIFA president Gianni Infantino and argued that Infantino’s plan to sell part of the World Cup to private investors wasn’t wrong. Speaking in an interview with CNN Sports, Eto’o—now president of the Cameroonian Football Federation—said criticism stems from timing, pointing to an upcoming election in which Infantino is standing. UEFA, Concacaf and the AFC are reportedly considering a no-confidence vote against him. Infantino’s proposal aimed to raise up to $20 billion in private investment: each of FIFA’s 211 member associations would receive $20 million, plus an additional $66 million over the next 12 years. Eto’o argued it could help African nations compete better, citing talents like Mbappé’s Cameroonian heritage.
