xCruzo Brief
Ken Griffin, the Citadel founder whose fortune Forbes estimates at about $60 billion, has been acquiring large property holdings across Miami in ways that critics and brokers describe as building “a city within a city.” On Sept. 30, he closed on roughly 30 acres of Wynwood for $1.1 billion in cash, and Carnegie Mellon University said he would donate $3 billion—two-thirds earmarked for a Miami campus planned for more than 3,500 students and nearly 300 faculty. Construction is set for 2027, with the first students in 2028. The move follows prior major purchases in Brickell, Star Island, and nearby developments.
