Florian Krewer, a German-Born New York Painter, Explores the Spaces Between

Florian Krewer, a 39-year-old painter from the Bronx who was born in Germany, is the subject of another solo exhibition at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris. “Florian Krewer: woven thin” is on view until Jan. 4. Krewer, known to friends as “Flo,” lives in the Melrose section and rides his bike to his studio in Hunts Point near the Bruckner Expressway. His figurative work often uses large stretches of negative space, with floating figures, askew horizon lines, and titles that don’t spell out the meaning. Curator Nicola Lees praised his economy of brushwork and colors. A co-curated show at the George Economou Collection is expected until March.
