Former UCF coach Shawn Clark's legacy lives on in his wife's mission

The legacy of former UCF coach Shawn Clark now fuels his wife Jonelle Clark's mission to raise awareness about coaching pressures and athlete well-being. Jonelle, a former Eastern Kentucky standout who earned all-conference honors as a Colonels pitcher, built her identity alongside Shawn as he rose through the college ranks. She later joined Scott Frost's staff at UCF on January 4, 2025 as the Knights' offensive line coach, a position that placed her at the center of a demanding football calendar. Their life together spanned over two decades, highlighting the costs and resilience behind a coaching career. Nine months after joining UCF, on September 10, 2025, Shawn Clark was hospitalized after a medical emergency, according to university officials. The couple spent 12 days in hospital as Jonelle grappled with fear and confusion, describing a mix of emotions and a resolve to act once he recovered. During that time, Clark conceived an initiative to inform others and spread awareness about the realities behind long coaching hours and family strain. Shawn Clark died on September 22, leaving a lasting imprint on his wife and the UCF community. Frost recalled that Shawn was 'one of those guys' you feel you’ve known for life.
