From Our Inbox: Letters to the Editor for the Week Ending Oct. 23, 2026

A week’s letters to the editor in Santa Barbara County challenge how local authorities are restricting new gun retailers near sensitive sites. One writer questions the logic behind opposition to a Goleta plan to temporarily ban new gun stores near a pre-school, arguing critics rarely explain the specific risk and pointing to evidence that criminals often use the black market or stolen guns. Another letter backs public scrutiny of a proposed Gratitude Canyon camp in western Goleta, calling for clearer answers on wildfire evacuation, noise, traffic, wildlife, lighting, and future zoning uses, especially given the project’s resources and celebrity visibility.
