Georgia's Justice Ministry launches investigation into inmate Davit Peikrishvili's injurie
Georgia’s Justice Ministry has opened an investigation into injuries suffered by inmate Davit Peikrishvili. The General Inspection’s Investigative Division launched the case on October 20, 2026, after information was widely reported in the media. The probe is being carried out under Article 126, Part 1 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which addresses violence, and includes investigative and procedural steps to examine the circumstances. Peikrishvili’s lawyer, Paatа Gogiashvili, alleges he was assaulted on October 16 at Gldani Prison No. 8 by Vato Kipiani, Avtandil Bilanashvili (Katsro), and others. The Penitentiary Service denied any violence, and Kipiani’s lawyer says he rejects the allegations. Peikrishvili was transferred to Vivamed on October 19 and October 20 for further treatment and surgery.
