Glasgow 2014 muscle memory and legacy fuelling delivery of the 2026 Commonwealth Games - Conference & Meetings World | Global MICE Industry News from CMW
Glasgow 2014 is being credited with “muscle memory” that is accelerating delivery of the 2026 Commonwealth Games within a tight budget. Speaking on Trivandi’s newly launched Behind the Games podcast, Louisa Mahon, chief marketing officer for Glasgow 2026, said legacy venues, retained for ongoing sport use, helped the city plan at record pace. The Games, scheduled for 23 July to 2 August, are set to be the UK’s biggest multisport event of the year, with 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories. Mahon also highlighted a hotel-hub model that integrates competitors into local neighbourhoods, supported by retailers and hotels. Trivandi co-founder Paul May said the city “came to life” in 2014 and that the 2026 approach could inform future events, including the India Commonwealth Games in 2030.
