Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, disclosed that the government spent GH¢58 million to support the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He made the statement during Parliament’s 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review on Thursday, July 23, describing it as part of the administration’s accountability over approved budget spending. Forson told lawmakers that the amount had been paid and framed the disclosure as a transparent account for Parliament and the public. The Black Stars, coached by Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz, finished 24th overall after reaching beyond the group stage and being eliminated in the newly introduced Round of 32 at the 48-team World Cup in North America. The team’s return to the tournament’s biggest stage will now shift to qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, drawn into Group C with Ivory Coast, The Gambia, and Somalia.
