Group raising funds to restore War Memorial fishing pond | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
A group of citizens plans a fundraising event to restore the fishing pond at War Memorial Park in Little Rock, Arkansas, with the goal of raising $350,000. The event runs from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Thursday at Trios Restaurant, 8201 Cantrell Road, and is led by Steve Davison of Little Rock. Organizers say the cheapest engineering approach is estimated to cost $350,000, including dredging the impounded pond from Coleman Creek to depths up to 15 feet to improve fish habitat. Funds would also pay for fishing piers and tree planting. Officials including Ward 3 director Kathy Webb and Ward 4 director Capi Peck support the effort, while Trios will provide food and there will be a cash bar and auction items, including artwork by George Dombeck and a painting by Pat Matthews showing the restored pond. The pond was created during the Mike Huckabee administration but became too shallow due to silt deposits.
