Gwinnett County schools on lockdown due to police activity

Three schools in Georgia’s Gwinnett County were placed under a soft lockdown Thursday morning while police handled an incident nearby. The district said the lockdown affected Mountain View High School, Twin Rivers Middle School and Freeman’s Mill Elementary School. Officials clarified that the police activity was not related to the schools themselves. Roads in the area were blocked, including Lena Carter Road, Old Peachtree Road and Braselton Highway, as officers continued their work. During a soft lockdown, people are not allowed to enter or exit school buildings while regular activities resume. Atlanta News First said it reached out to Gwinnett County police, and the U.S. Marshals Service confirmed its involvement. The situation was still developing.
