xCruzo Brief

Labor Day dates back to the late 19th century, when worker advocates pushed for a dedicated day for labor. The first U.S. Labor Day celebration was held in New York City on Sept. 5, 1882, with about 10,000 workers marching. It became a federal legal holiday when President Grover Cleveland signed an act in 1894 establishing the first Monday of September. This year, government buildings, offices, post offices, courts and schools are closed, while U.S. stock markets and banks will also be shut. Standard FedEx and UPS pickups won’t run, but some critical services may be available at select locations. Costco will close; most major retailers and grocery stores will be open with promos. AAA expects flight prices nearly 20% higher than last year, regular gas just under $4.10 per gallon, and cruises from U.S. ports about 4% cheaper.
