High school football team wins playoff game on miracle Hail Mary -- and lateral

Whitesboro pulled off a miracle in the closing seconds to keep its playoff hopes alive in upstate New York. In the Empire State’s Section III Class A quarterfinals on Friday night, fourth-seeded Whitesboro trailed 30-25 with under four seconds remaining against Carthage. A Hail Mary thrown to senior wide receiver Connor McDonald was deflected, but junior receiver Landon Pearsall recovered the loose ball. Under heavy pressure, Pearsall tossed a lateral mid-tackle back to McDonald, who scrambled up and sprinted into the end zone to win 31-30. The play made SportsCenter’s Top 10.
