House Democrats' campaign arm adds 4 candidates to program for top challengers
The House Democrats' campaign arm expanded its Red to Blue program by adding four challengers aimed at flipping GOP-held districts in the midterms. The four newcomers join the list after contested primaries and broaden the caucus's effort to reclaim the House. Rebecca Bennett, a former Navy helicopter pilot, won New Jersey's 7th District nomination to challenge Rep. Tom Kean Jr., whose long absence from Capitol Hill has fueled controversy. California offers two entries: San Diego City Council member Marni von Wilpert is running in the 48th District against Republican Jim Desmond, a seat Cook Political Report classed as 'lean Democrat'; in Nebraska, Denise Powell will face Omaha City Council member Brinker Harding for the 2nd District, another 'lean Democrat' race. Florida completes the quartet with Bale Dalton entering a competitive primary to oppose Rep. Cory Mills in a seat Cook rates as 'likely Republican.'
