India's data centre capacity may reach 3-3.6 GW by 2030, hyperscalers to drive growth: Axis Capital

India’s data-center buildout could reach about 3–3.6 gigawatts (GW) by 2030, according to a report cited by Axis Capital that points to hyperscalers and emerging AI cloud providers as the main drivers of new demand. While industry players have publicly discussed 6–8 GW targets, the report warns execution and supply-chain constraints could leave actual operational capacity below those figures. It estimates hyperscalers could make up roughly 90% of demand by 2030, up from around 60% today, as firms including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Google expand. Installed capacity is currently about 1.3–1.4 GW, with 60–65% in colocation and 25–30% in captive or leased capacity.
