Mount Anak Krakatau’s eruption in Indonesia has disrupted travel and daily life, forcing hundreds of flight cancellations at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. On Sunday, the airport suspended operations until 9:30 a.m. (0230 GMT) because of volcanic ash, after an earlier hold planned through 5:30 a.m. The Indonesian transportation ministry said the stoppage affected 209 flights, including international services. The ministry reported ash at the airport early Sunday, with ash levels reaching 20,000 feet (6,000 metres) on the Java side and plumes up to 50,000 feet (15,000 metres) on the Sumatra side and parts of Banten province, according to BMKG. The BNPB disaster agency urged calm and mask and eye protection in case of ashfall, canceling of some Saturday school activities and fishing trips were reported. BNPB said there was no imminent tsunami risk. The 2018 Anak Krakatau eruption triggered a deadly tsunami.
