Insecurity worsening under Tinubu' - Atiku on death of retired Army General in bandits' captivity
The insecurity crisis in Nigeria is framed as worsening under President Bola Tinubu, according to Atiku Abubakar. In a statement issued by his media office, the ADC candidate cited the death of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe in bandit captivity and a recent attack on schools in Chibok, Borno State, as proof of deteriorating security. He described Rabe's death as a painful reminder of the vulnerability of Nigerians, including senior security figures. Rabe, a former Army Spokesperson, was abducted with his wife on May 30 in Katsina State and died from complications linked to diabetes and hypertension. Atiku warned that such incidents threaten national security architecture. He linked the Chibok attack on schools reported the same day to the persistence of insecurity and to the broader trauma the nation endures. The town of Chibok, whose 2014 abduction of more than 270 girls remains a national scar, was highlighted to illustrate the scale of the challenge. Atiku urged Nigerians to demand stronger security measures and accountability amid ongoing banditry and insurgent activity. His remarks echo other opposition voices calling for decisive action to protect civilians and critical infrastructure. Rabe's case underscores the risks faced even by senior military leaders in the face of mounting security threats.
