Jammu Airport sees major expansion in capacity and infrastructure growth - The Tribune

Jammu Airport has undergone significant growth and modernisation over the past decade, expanding its capacity and capabilities. Director Devender Yadav said the new terminal is about 60 per cent complete and due for commissioning by year-end, a move that would push annual passenger handling toward five million. The terminal footprint has grown from 7,000 to 14,500 square metres, and the under-construction building is expected to bring total area to around 40,000 square metres. Aircraft parking has risen from seven to 13 stands for A321-type aircraft, while Runway 36 was extended by about 1,300 feet in 2021 to support A321 operations. The landing facility is being upgraded from CAT-I to CAT-II to improve low-visibility reliability.

Jammu Airport is operated jointly by the Airports Authority of India and the Indian Air Force, reflecting its strategic role in North India. Yadav noted that aerobridges rose from zero in 2017 to three, and the forthcoming terminal will add six more. Other upgrades include a domestic cargo terminal, a dedicated helicopter stand and a link taxiway, plus a 400-kilowatt rooftop solar plant. In 2024, an Under Vehicle Surveillance system and an Integrated Perimeter Security System strengthened security ahead of the June 15 Yatri Suvidha Diwas.
