Democratic House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries met privately in recent weeks with Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, in a rare New York City engagement aimed at finding potential areas of common ground ahead of a likely Democratic-led House. According to five people familiar with the meeting, it was arranged through a mutual friend and held in private space provided by that person. Jeffries, who is in line to become speaker if Democrats win the majority, and Kushner discussed topics including housing, immigration and the high cost of living. One suggestion from Kushner was that Jeffries meet White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, though compromise on such issues appears unlikely.
