Khachanov upsets Auger-Aliassime to reach US Open third round

Karen Khachanov reached the U.S. Open third round after upsetting Canadian third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-7(5) 6-3 6-2 6-2 on Thursday. The world No. 50 was not at his most convincing, but capitalized on an unstable day for Auger-Aliassime, who had struggled with errors. Khachanov broke Auger-Aliassime’s serve seven times at Louis Armstrong Stadium and saved seven of nine break points, securing only his second top-10 win at a Grand Slam. After dropping the first set tiebreak, Khachanov took control with a dominant second-set recovery and a 4-0 lead early in the fourth, closing with a decisive hold.
