Left the U.S. for Spain and bought a house for $72,000 -- 'It was one of the biggest leaps of faith we'd ever taken'

A Dominican-American man and his Cuban-American wife, Luci, say they left the U.S. for Spain after feeling their life in Ormond Beach, Florida lacked fulfillment despite stability. They rented out their home for five months, moved their 7-year-old daughter out of school, and shipped their belongings to Spain while waiting for approval of a Digital Nomad Visa. They first stayed in an Airbnb in Alicante for six weeks, but rising rental prices led them to keep searching. In July 2025 they bought a 5-bedroom, 2-bath 1,600-square-foot house in Castil de Campos, Andalusia, for about $72,000, paying cash. They later opened a creative studio.
