Lions rookie WR Kendrick Law out for season with torn ACL

Detroit Lions rookie Kendrick Law's season-ending torn ACL reorients the team's 2026 outlook after a non-contact injury during OTAs. The 5-11, 203-pound receiver was a fifth-round pick (168th overall) from Kentucky in April and was viewed as the No. 5 receiver and primary kickoff returner. Law impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine with a 42-inch vertical and a 4.45-second 40-yard dash. Head coach Dan Campbell called the loss a setback but stressed the long arc of a young player's career. Law spent his first three college seasons at Alabama as a Nick Saban recruit before transferring to Kentucky. Last season for the Wildcats, he posted 53 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns after recording 33 receptions in three years with the Crimson Tide. The Lions signed Greg Dortch to return punts and to work into the offense behind Isaac TeSlaa, Jameson Williams and No. 1 receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Detroit will rely on Dortch to handle punt returns and to provide depth behind its top receivers. Law's injury removes a promising rookie from the lineup and tests the team's readiness to adapt during the offseason and into training camp. This setback heightens the need to evaluate and bolster the WR room as the Lions pursue a productive 2026 season.
