List of top summer solstice events in the West Country to celebrate longest day

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the West Country to celebrate the solstice, marking the official start of astronomical summer. The moment of maximum tilt toward the sun is at 09:24 BST on Sunday, with many celebrations focusing on the sunrise at 04:52. Stonehenge parking is already sold out, and English Heritage anticipates turnout similar to last year across Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. Avebury near Marlborough also attracts large crowds, and its car park will be open for sunrise, with space for camper vans in the main lot. In Somerset, Glastonbury Tor is a popular sunrise site, with participants dressing in nature-inspired outfits to watch the light change; photographer Michelle Cowbourne plans to ascend the Tor around 04:00. Stanton Drew near Bristol is another solstice gathering point. For those on the water, an early-morning swim at Vobster's Quay in Frome is planned, and Cheltenham Lido is hosting a sunrise event with gates opening at 04:15 and the swim finishing at 07:00. Dundry Hill, Robinswood Hill, Pan Tod Beacon and Severn Beach are among other prime sunrise viewpoints.
