Mayor, DYCD, NYC FC Launch Youth Sports-Tech Challenge
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), New York City FC and City in the Community announced the New York City Sports and Technology Innovation Challenge, launching as part of the City’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The initiative aims to introduce “hundreds” of young people to careers at the intersection of sports, innovation and technology through a team-based challenge over six weeks. Participants will develop ideas to expand access to soccer, improve public infrastructure and envision the future of sports in New York City, working with leaders from government, education, technology and sports. The program is framed as a World Cup legacy effort, alongside plans to convert 50 school blocks into World Cup “field days” and expand free playing opportunities.
